one for the books. heist films don’t get better than this — heat has everything the genre demands and more.

sean baker’s film that resonated with me the most. a rollercoaster ride, with a safdie-esque pulse, able to draw a fine line between comedy and tragedy. anora knows exactly when to hit full throttle and when to ease up, leading to a finale fit for a tale — like the moment a spell is lifted.

"Everything? What's the point? I mean, I sure as shit don't know. Neither does anybody else, okay? We're all just winging it, you know? The good news is you're feeling stuff. And you've got to hold on to that."

we may never know the point of any of this — perhaps because there isn’t one — but feeling stuff is definitely the most meaningful thing we can do, and this movie certainly made me feel something.

there is no huge plot, just the evolution of a family over 12 years through the eyes of a small boy. beautiful.

"He remembers those vanished years. As though looking through a dusty window pane, the past is something he could see, but not touch. And everything he sees is blurred and indistinct."

enveloped in cigarette smoke and tight dresses, this film speaks volumes in silence. its visuals weave an immersive tapestry, while the soundtrack orchestrates a symphony of longing. a restrained yet powerful exploration of unspoken connections — it beautifully captures the essence of desire with haunting elegance.
