I like that the humor is pretty sincere for a 2004 comedy bc the trailers before this featured a movie centered around boobs and relied on dwarfs for its comedy lol so cringey how much the 2000s were obsessed with using small people as a hacky comedy thing haha too many examples of that

I watched this with director’s commentary today, makes me appreciate the film tenfold. All its improvised scenes and Herzog’s rapport with non actors, his poetic sense of humor. This is filmmaking at its most sincere. 
The immigrant story is an American story. 
To start over in a new land, to make the same mistakes.
