  when you're at the top of the ladder the margin of error is so small, so unforgiving, and so without flexibility that even the smallest mistake can be fatal. the ecosystem of john wick is full of assassins who never forget this, who have all garnered their reputations and built their careers on killing those who refuse to acknowledge how uncompromising the work is.

  Public Enemies 2009

  surprisingly conventional for Michael Mann. chock full of wonderful photography, you could isolate a handful of shots and moments which would make you believe this is one of the greats, but public enemies lacks a certain pizzazz which makes it memorable. maybe I’m holding Mann to a higher standard, but sandwiched between Miami Vice and Blackhat this movie sticks out like a sore thumb.

  not quite as bad as anticipated.

  before getting into the weird politics and structure of Emilia Perez its failures as a musical need to be addressed. the choreography is generally flat, and I couldn’t conjure any part of any song in my mind if my life depended on it. 

  it’s all fairly headache inducing. hard to follow because of how needlessly frenetic it is, but unrewarding if you do manage to keep up. stylized movies invite and encourage meticulous viewing, but…
