Ladies and gentlemen, it’s only February and we’ve got a strong contender for film of the year! Rewatching Dune got me hyped for Dune: Part Two, but nothing could have fully prepared me for what I just witnessed on the big screen. Director Denis Villeneuve has further cemented his status as one of our greatest living auteurs, and this might just be his crown jewel (although I’m hoping he only continues to outdo himself). Dune: Part Two improves upon its…

Dune was one of the only films I went to see in theatres in 2021, and I loved it so much, I went to see it twice. Denis Villeneuve is probably my favourite working director right now, and he was the perfect fit for this dense and challenging material. I’ve never read Frank Herbert’s source material, but I know it’s not easily adaptable, and while I like David Lynch’s take on the material for its own reasons, Villeneuve’s version is…

I quite enjoyed the Danish original version of Speak No Evil, and so I went into this new version both excited and wary of the Americanized treatment of the plot. It turns out I was right to have my doubts, but I still enjoyed it for what it was. After blowing our son Jack's mind with Inside Out yesterday, it was time to move on to this year's sequel - Inside Out 2. Sequels are a tricky thing, but Pixar has usually been reliable (Toy Story 2, The Incredibles 2, and Monsters University are all very enjoyable), and Inside Out 2 is no exception. While it may not quite reach the heights of its predecessor, it's still a very solid film which will surely be rewatched over and over…

I had a skateboarding phase back in 1999. I remember making my first ollie and the exhilaration that came with that accomplishment. I remember coming home and playing Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 after-school every single day with friends. Tony Hawk: Until the Wheels Fall Off had me excited because I knew that it was going to take me on a glorious trip down memory lane. Add to that, it was directed by Sam Jones, the director of my favourite…
