Wow, leave it to Anno to potentially even top End of Eva, I absolutely loved this.
I'm not too sure exactly on every single one of the details in terms of plot etc. but I think this was deliberate on Anno's part for viewers to imprint their own interpretation.
It's a beautiful and bittersweet farewell to a franchise that has been ongoing for 20+ years, and while these movies definitely have their controversial elements for the fans and I can understand the criticisms, I couldn't think of a better ending, phenomenal.Translated from by

God this was disappointing, gorgeous animation and nice musical numbers aside, the pacing was absolutely all over the place, and the downright insulting domestic abuse sub plot at the end totally ruined this, also the fact Mamoru Hosoda had the brass neck to insult Hayao Miyazaki in terms of writing female characters while making every single female character in this film (and most of his films tbh) an absolute anime trope is laughable
