  My second Eggars experience after Lighthouse, and I think I liked this one more.

  I really liked how vivid so many of the scenes felt despite being filmed in near complete darkness. I thought the use of sound mixing to create tension was executed flawlessly, maybe my favorite part of the movie. All of the performances were superb, particularly Depp and Skarsgård. I also really appreciated how close this movie seemed to hold to the original myth of what vampires…

  While the animation and score are great, I think this movie’s greatest strength is in its character interactions. An especially impressive feat seeing as how none of the characters can talk.

  By several objective standards, I don’t think I should have enjoyed this movie as much as I did.

  I found the political/religious allegories to be a bit overplayed and cringey. I feel like they could have done more with some of the cool concepts presented instead of wasting time on weird space sex. And for my money, it dragged on a BIT too long for me.

  But there was just something about the movie that made me enjoy it for…
