  I think the first 3/4ths of the movie were a solid portrayal of mental illness and what it puts people through, both victims and those close to them. It was great.

  Then the movie turned into Glee. Blech.

  I'm a big Ghibli fan. Porco Rosso is probably in my all-time top-five, and Spirited Away and Totoro are two of the first movies I'll recommend to people unprompted. I'm also a fan of the less-fantastical ones, like Only Yesterday. So it was with great interest that I watched From Up On Poppy Hill, directed by Goro Miyazaki with the help of his dad and the rest of the Ghibli family.

  Blackfish is one of the best documentaries I've seen in a while, and presents the reality of orca captivity in a way that is both compassionate and brutal.
