With a parody or spoof, it’s important that the creator have some form of admiration for the original. Take Hot Shots!. It’s obvious the creators liked Top Gun, but still made fun of it. Like a roast comedian or close friend might do.

First off, this movie is way too long, especially for a kids movie. It should have been 90-100 minutes, tops.
Secondly, this movie shows us that Disney’s strengths never did lie in live-action. Everything is shot in separate, flatly lit and static shots. The most you can hope for is a pan-shot. It’s everything except the cinematography that saves it (actors, costumes, set design).
