Insane that in a movie filled with masterful performances like the ones given by Dafoe, Skarsgard, Depp, Hoult, and Ineson, you also get a performance like that one phoned in by Aaron Taylor-Johnson. But outside of that, Robert Eggers is firing on all cylinders. The set design, costuming, makeup effects, score, cinematography. All so incredible. And I loved how they fleshed out the story and really leaned into the occult aspect of things. It worked so well.

My Neighbor Totoro 1988
Watching this alongside a toddler who has probably seen this 100 times this year alone but still giggles in delight when Totoro is on screen like it’s the first time she’s watching it proves how great of a filmmaker Miyazaki is. Truly one of the best, and I have so much appreciation for him and new found appreciation through watching this movie through the eyes of an enamored toddler.
