A self-aware parody of the pervesion of aesthetics, and the aesthetic basis for chauvinism/kyriarchy. Depicts the harm that this perversion causes, the way it is perpetuated by self-delusion and a neurotic/psychotic state, how it can rationalise and enable progressively radical behaviour.

The art/design of the film is great and the acting is endearing. Plot a bit all over the place but still manages to come together fine. Would like to rewatch this in 50 years and see what I think then.

First half was great, had such potential, but resolved to a somewhat vacuous plot with comically unnecessary H-scenes. The cut with the H-scenes removed is better. Sawa initially seems like a character with depth but the character development is lacking (/non-existent). Big shame, really.
