The only redeeming quality of this movie was the cinematography. The filmmaker was obviously obsessed with the idea of sex with a girl who (at least appeared) underage. The amount of sex scenes with the young woman seemed incredibly gratuitous and halted the story in its tracks. I was pretty disappointed as I really enjoyed the story of the main character until he met the young girl. I did enjoy the ending and can definitely see the pieces of a good filmmaker forming.
I am not usually one to watch horror movies but everyone told me I had to see this. I'm glad I did. I loved the production design, the cinematography and the practical makeup/effects. The story was...pretty basic - but the execution was perfect. I especially loved Dennis Quaid.
The rumors are true. This movie is the best camp in that it doesn't know that it's camp. The plot is...really boring honestly and the movie goes on so many random asides for visuals' sake that I gave up trying to follow the story. The acting is...impossible because the dialogue is written so poorly. Only Aubrey and Shia shine in this movie because their characters are peak camp. My overall takeaways are:
1) Coppola really wanted to do a Broadway…
the production value and casting were top notch but overall the story suffered from feeling too stuffy and too long. it would have been better to just focus on a small part of napoleon's life instead of trying to trace him start to finish. the battle tactics were the most interesting part.
