Didn't go in with much of any expectations and didn't watch the trailer, which I think is the way to approach this taut little suspense thriller that ends up feeling like a two-person play when the two "old friends" get back together.

Loathe to provide any sort of details, other than wonderful performances, tense AF, thought provoking, at times traumatic, thought experimenty...this movie will make you think, feel, and possibly even shout at your TV at times.

Going to have a things-going-wrong-in-the-house nightmare about wasp nests in the smoke alarm.

A passable if somewhat unremarkable ghost story that skews more family drama/thriller than horror. Some interesting concepts going on in this one (the camera "gimmick" will be immediately evident, and while a gimmick, it didn't feel too tiresome).

Decent enough performances. The dad reminded me of Louis CK and Lucy Liu was surprisingly underutilized. The house has a lot of charm and nice atmosphere, yet somehow it didn't feel capital H haunted.

I kinda wish they kept the soundtrack out…

Giallo Through the Looking Glass. And it's just great. Bava's stuff is excellent, but this obscurity just may be my favourite. A thinker; a mystery; a nightmare-on-film; atmosphere for days.

The airplane scene will bring a chill. Just love it. Got some Messiah of Evil vibes at times -- another fave of mine. For those who are into the dreamlike, the moody, the slightly frustrating, the slow burn goodness: take note of this one.

Fast becoming my favourite sleeper/chiller "Christmas" horror. Gets better with each viewing.
    - 70s slow burn vibes: check
    - small town weirdness: check
    - spooky house: check
    - Christmas music: check (but in minor tone, adding to the dread)
    - tasteful flashbacks: check (and in sepia tone, no less)

Black Christmas fans take note. Check out the New Castle After Dark version on Youtube.
