I love how the classic premise of people stuck in a room together blossoms into something gorgeous and unexpected. I love this different take on a boys boarding school story. I love that it's 1970 and they can smoke everywhere and it's winter and they're all hurting but also find joy.

It's the Rogue One for SNL fans where no one dies. At least not yet.

I loved it. I got chills.

I'd been excited for it every since they announced the project and bit by bit the casting. Finally saw it with some friends on their very large TV. Which was helpful as there's so much to take in. It's manic, but that was the vibe of that night.

What an absolute delight! And what a pair are Jack and Shirley. Especially Shirley, right?

I saw many years ago a Chicago production of Promises, Promises, the musical based on the film, but I didn't remember the story much. A dear friend was in it and he played Dr. Dreyfus. Add this watch to my current list of "finallies."

The film in parts does feel like a play, especially those scenes in the apartment itself. But not in a stuffy…

I believe this is my first full length silent film watch. I was into it!

Except I found the accompanying music distracting. I'm not sure if its even the original music. It sounded not period and generic. I kept the volume down. Am I crazy?

Otherwise, loved getting a glimpse at life and love from almost a century ago. Loved the visuals and craftsmanship. And so funny when it wasn't sad.

    Also James Murray is dreamy.

I received the RENT double CD Broadway Cast Recording for my 22nd birthday as a college theatre major. This was our generation's musical for sure. When I graduated in 1997, Mom took me to New York and seeing the show was a highlight. Most of the original cast was still there, though some had moved on (or weren't on that night). After the show, clutching my poster and a pen, I met Idina, Wilson, Fredi, Timothy, Gwen, Gilles, Kristin, and…

Much of my recent viewing involves PBS docs as my DVR is set to record American Experience and American Masters whenever they air on my local station (WTTW Chicago). As a Chicagoan, I know all about the Disco Demolition, but it was nice to see a more in depth look into it. (Also, I couldn't help hearing SNL's Melissa Villasenor singing "White Male Rage" over and over in my head.)
