Obviously, it’s not his best—but I feel for directors who, according to a large swath of you, must always be outdoing their last film. Even so, this is still light-years ahead of most mainstream cinema today. It’s funny, well-written, incredibly acted, and visually stunning. What starts as a nihilistic exploration of capitalism, political egomania, and colonization transforms into an unexpectedly hopeful meditation on the joys of life and human connection.
