The 4th Man 1983
A refreshingly surreal sexual terror. Mary being the patron saint of the queers made me laugh as a bisexual. I appreciate how queerness is surprisingly at the center of the story and Jeroen Krabbe’s selfish nature juxtaposes well to the malevolent innocence Renee Soutendijk poses against him as his lover. A very thrilling tale that almost felt like Final Destination as the world itself is conspiring to bring a fate upon Gerard, great premise!
P.s. the sets were beautiful, the directing mysterious and intentional, and the outfits Renee wore to die for - Literally!

Sweet Home 1989
From a nerdy retro gamer perspective, Sweet Home was a real treat after having finished playing the NES game.
I wondered just how corny this movie was going to be, but besides some out of place cheerful music in the more relaxed scenes, the somber music set the tone of mortality when the final hour does arrive. This, combined with sudden and shocking practical effects, truly solidify the threatening presence of every dark corner slithering about the Mamiya mansion.
