Everyone is very hot and I do appreciate the two supporting “straight” roles being played by queer icons, but it’s the weird thing that when you have that many rug pulls in a movie it means there’s no actual emotional core to the relationship. And that’s probably just the genre but it left me a bit cold. It did make me think about a sixties era Bond movie starring Ewan McGregor tho.

This is a movie I felt certain I had seen when it came out, but even if I did I remembered so little that it functioned as a first watch. Ann Miller is incredible; David Lynch knew exactly how to use the great movie musical stars in his surrealist examinations of the darkness hiding beneath the golden myths of America. And Naomi Watts is truly one of a kind in this. I too wish the dream was reality, Betty. 

Also a first ballot candidate for the lesbian wrongs and lesbian rights hall of fame.

Do I know what “happened” in this movie? WHO CARES. it’s a vibes and images movie, not a plot one, and by the time we got to naked interpretive dance in the jungle I was all in.

A great murder mystery of a spy thriller/comedy tbh. Also no one wears clothing like Cate Blanchett, good lord.
