Another decidedly convoluted, delightfully sleepy, arthouse picture from Lou Ye. Absolutely continues down the style of Suzhou River but clearly has more resources to amp up the pastiche.

This is what I wish Tim Burton movies were!
Really fun and high level performances from Stone and Ruffalo. Superb costuming and set design. I feel like Yorgos has finally alchemized some of the distasteful aspects of his recent movies into a really watchable bizarro format. Very cool to see it all come together so nicely.
Does this thing that I love so much by having a character loosely represent consciousness. It’s far more heavy handed than Paris Texas or maybe even Kajillionaire, but it fits in that same subset of movie I think.
Pair with Multiplicity for a dark look at masculinity.
