How was Tuco not the breakout star of this?
One thing I need to remember is how time flows in this movie, especially at the end: the two opposing armies vaporize when the dust from the cannon shots settles, and the final destination is literally one cannon shot away from them. It's mythic time that weaves together epic tableaux without care for the how. It's lampshading, sure, but it feels... elevated.
30 minutes of "I swear I'm not crazy, he's doing this to me!" too many for my taste, but this was well-acted and managed to make an invisible man legitimately scary.
Scavengers is not only a visual feast of tremendously gorgeous, if somewhat eerie, animation, even though the wonderful colors and haunting metamorphoses may be considered its best feature. It is an innovative cry against the naive romanticization of nature, intended as a space untouched by man. The wilderness is a place of beauty, but also of strife and violence.
