I first watched Lost Highway in — probably — 2008 or 2009 with one of my college roommates. He hated it. Went on and on about how there was no plot. I still don’t know if he was right or not, all these years later.
I do think Lost Highway suffers a little bit under its 1997 soundtrack. Wild film, though. Still don’t really truly get it.
I had a lot of fun even though the theater audio ranged from very bad to worse. Ridiculous in great ways.
If you can make it past the production quality — the shaky audio, the slightly stilted acting — this is a truly charming piece of science fiction. It’s a lovely story by Zenna Henderson.
When a pig and frog make the entire room tear up, you know you’ve got an absolute classic on your hands. Genuinely moving and beautiful.
