  * great Spiderman POV shots

  * Rhys Ifans performance
  * the cops-to-lizard transformation was pretty cool

  On the negative side:
  * some 3D CGI puppet fighting looked very fake
  * the movie as a whole is pretty redundant

  Why reboot a franchise after barely ten years? Well, the general cynicism of Hollywood to make big bucks, in a safe and predictable way

  Ancient Rome can be the backdrop of high-stakes political shenanigans and visceral fighting. This movie has just enough of it. Add some computer-gamey CGI (and some really good ones) and a sometimes weird TV-like editing, and a protagonist with the charisma of a twig, and you have something moderately entertaining but not more.

  Jake Gyllenhaal looks like a Jim-Carrey-from-hell, a fast-talking hustler with bulging eyes, a volatile deeply disturbing (and disturbed) character. Two years ago I never thought I would say this, but in his role Jake Gyllenhaal scared the fucking shit out of me.
