This is my mom’s comfort movie. It’s also definitely the origin of my idolization of Dolly Parton/crush on Julia Roberts

Fried Green Tomatoes 1991
For as long as I can remember my Nana said that this is one of her favorite movies of all time. I probably would’ve watched it a lot sooner if she would have told me about the cannibal lesbians.
We watched it tonight together from Oklahoma and Illinois respectively. While watching, I sent her a link to the music video for Goodbye Earl by The Chicks (which she had somehow never seen) and she ate it up. I am so glad this story exists and that it gave me another opportunity to grow closer to my grandmother. This was instant comfort movie status 💜

Punch-Drunk Love 2002
After Uncut Gems, I knew Punch-Drunk Love needed to be my next watch. It didn’t let me down, and earned rank on my list of favorite romances, but it’s also so much more than that.
At times I felt nearly as anxious as I did while watching Howard Ratner ruin his life, but in such a different way because Barry is somehow very relatable. I can’t believe it took me this long to watch this one!
