  Full disclosure, I really wanted this to be better. I thought the concept was so cool, and I’m such a sucker for cheesy holiday slashers. Unfortunately, I found Olivia Holt’s character to be pretty unlikeable, and the plot was so back and forth. Also, the side characters felt like caricatures, which kind of took me out of the movie. Yes, it’s a slasher about a murderer that kills couples, and it’s a romcom kinda. But somehow, it still took me out of the viewing experience. I wanted to LOVE this, okay? It was just…..meh.

  As I’ve said before, it’s a damn good time to be a Scream fan. 

  I left Scream (2022) pretty happy, but with a few criticisms. I couldn’t buy completely into the new characters - I liked Sam, but missed Sidney. Tara was sidelined for most of the movie, and while I liked the sister relationship that the movie focused on, I missed the original trio. I did feel that the franchise was in good hands, but ultimately felt bittersweet about…

  It’s…different, for sure. And I was interested. And the performances are incredibly good, as well as the sound design, which had me cringing in my seat. But I just didn’t enjoy it. I was anxious the whole time instead of scared, which bothered me. And I thought Mia was a pretty awful friend, especially to someone who took her in during a hard time in life. The ending was so bleak - and maybe I just don’t like bleak horror…
