I can see why people like it, but it just wasn't it for me.
Jake is just such an unlikely character. He seemingly has no redeeming qualities.

I also felt the movie was a little long at over 2 hours run time.

I did like how "gritty" the characters were and I thought De Niro was excellent. Props to him for cultivating enough mass to play overweight Jake.

Disclaimer: I watched the movie hung over with barely any sleep and I think that may unfortunately be the biggest influence of my enjoyment.

The theme of the non committed patients being manipulated by the institution in order to keep them obedient to me was interesting.

The movie was a slow burn and I think I would definitely have to watch it again. Feels like a film that my score could increase each time I watched it.

Unfortunately the first time I was having some trouble following along and maintaining concentration.

This film felt similar to My Neighbor Totaro in that it lacked a central narrative and instead put you into a different world through stylistic visuals, great soundtrack and unique energy. Except instead of experiencing childhood imagination in am idealized Japan you get plunged in to the filthiest toilet in Scotland.

I do feel that Trainspotting achieves it's goal and makes the viewer feel certain emotions. Those feeling just are not very pleasant. Seeing Renton dive through the toilet to…

I had never seen this movie before. It's so heavily referenced and enshrined in pop culture that I feel like I had seen it.

It was at times difficult to tell what was in thr characters minds and what was supernatural. When the ghost opened the freezer door I was a little confused.
The movie is kind of like a puzzle, but with excellent sound and visual design it's possible to put it together indifferent ways. I can see why it's a classic and continues to be talked about many years later.
