    Reinterpretation rather than remake, Patrick Lussier's film is too reliant on its initial release's gimmick. The third era of 3D (following '50s and '80s) was upon us and this rode that wave. So while it does try to be different to the '81 movie; its changes don't work, and its set-pieces are over reliant on an audience seeing the gore fly out of the screen at them. In a cinema, with stereoscopic glasses on (and perhaps a couple of beers inside you) that might work. But not in flat 2D. Good films should work both ways...

    About an hour into watching this, I wanted it to end. It would've been a short film with a depressing denouement. But at least it would've been over. Because I could tell there was worse to come. And I was right.
    Not for the squeamish, this is a tough film to watch at times. It's not overly graphic in its depictions, it's just that what is depicted is highly unpleasant. And depressingly believable.
