  “I have thick, stupid, butcher’s hands just like yours”
  A sharp epic that explores the harsh moral erosion that comes with vengeance. Contains some of Spielberg’s boldest framing and shot designs. It’s pretty astonishing that he was able to make a film as damning and thematically pointed about Israel’s retaliation in the wake of the Munich Massacre in the year 2005. Maybe it just hits differently 20 years later.

  Shyamalan’s best since Signs. This is a filmmaker confronting his most trembling fears with the batshit swing of someone making their first or last film. Its thought-provoking contemplation on aging mixes well with some mortifying body horror (did anyone else think of Kuroneko?!) and the sick sense of humor Shyamalan has only flirted with up until this point. Old is disturbing, gross and ruthless while also equally melancholic and beautiful. He and I share similar fears, so when he expresses those…
