    Although it’s not as slavish a retelling as the recent Lion King and Little Mermaid remakes, the latest Snow White is still an enormously dull picture. Director Marc Webb, known for indies such as 500 Days of Summer and Gifted, and blockbusters such as The Amazing Spider-Man 1 & 2, shows a basic understanding of running an expensive production and not fully embarrassing himself, yet as competent as he may be, Snow White‘s biggest weakness come from its weak direction.

    “I have thick, stupid, butcher’s hands just like yours
    A sharp epic that explores the harsh moral erosion that comes with vengeance. Contains some of Spielberg’s boldest framing and shot designs. It’s pretty astonishing that he was able to make a film as damning and thematically pointed about Israel’s retaliation in the wake of the Munich Massacre in the year 2005. Maybe it just hits differently 20 years later.

    Shyamalan’s best since Signs. This is a filmmaker confronting his most trembling fears with the batshit swing of someone making their first or last film. Its thought-provoking contemplation on aging mixes well with some mortifying body horror (did anyone else think of Kuroneko?!) and the sick sense of humor Shyamalan has only flirted with up until this point.
