Fantastic approach to a pretty melodramatic tale. Scorsese approaches it with the same reverence that Newland shows for that cheesy play they watch. Some very interesting choices with the hairlight, iris shots and lighting across the eyes that invoke earlier film and even theater.
Completely sumptuous in every shot. Immaculate set dressing and costuming. Call me a sucker for a period piece.
A less grotesque Salo?
Really great costuming. Not sure if I could recommend to anyone
