I was surprised —and delighted— how specifically apolitical this movie was. At its heart, it’s a love letter to wartime journalism.
I’ve seen a few fantastic movies about wartime journalism— Salvador, Under Fire, The Year of Living Dangerously… and in each of these films, the protagonists are Western journalists covering a specific historical conflict, and so there’s an inherent bias towards or against a particular side in the conflict they’re covering.
