Tbh, i think the other Wong Kar-Wai movies are better, this one just didn’t click for me the same way. That being said it is a raw look at a relationship that is portrayed more realistically than usually in movies. RIP to the great Leslie Cheung who always did a great job in such roles.

Entertaining and a focus on a topic that isn’t too common in films — language and cultural preservation. I liked the small animations/cartoons that were also drawn in the film. Goes well with the international movement of solidarity against greater oppressive powers.

good visuals, cinematography, and music. there are some interesting tidbits like "imagining hell is a privilege" etc. The overall theme/meaning is well-intentioned.

Overall though, this film moves at a glacial page, the dialog is very difficult to understand (most of it is metaphorical or allegorical), I didn't care for most of the musical scenes, and I was very bored throughout. It felt as if I were attending a university lecture. The plot is mystifying and the "hacking" aspect is also not very clear to me. I guess it really is a critic's film, and not one for simpletons like myself.

Really good, tension built up well and great acting from the kid. emotionally touching. Not knowing what the twist was in advance also helped.
