So, full disclosure. I’ve been doing my biannual Sopranos rewatch (who am I kidding, it’s more than twice a year) as well as mixing in a great History channel docuseries called American Godfathers on Hulu (also highly recommend). I’ve even been told my mood has been slightly more agro of late. In other words, I was in the mood for a Mafia film in theaters, even if it would just be DeNiro karaoke.

Welp, if it was last call at…

Was very pleasantly surprised by this sleek, oddly humorous soup thriller. Blanchett and Fassbender are pitch perfect as always, but the stacked supporting cast also brings it. Not the best Soderberg film and it won’t change your life. But I recommend it!

Objectively, I entered the theater $40 later expecting to be disappointed. The reason why Cameron's movies traditionally are great is because he not only visually stuns you, but he also makes you empathize with his characters on a personal level.

Maybe I was having a bad day, but I just really didn't care for this film.

But I guess $2,267,606,306 worldwide and counting means something? Good for Cameron. Lord knows he needs the money.

PS: we have at least three more Avatar sequels confirmed. Let’s hope they become more narratively interesting.

Many people have not heard of this film, but I had one of those forgotten moments where you rent a movie from Blockbuster. I was 11 years old. I watched it then, and saw my parents cry. I understood that it was a good movie.

I just watched it again. Just like the Sopranos I suppose you need to see things at a certain age. It's phenomenal.
