To a Land Unknown 2024
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I definitely see the La Haine connection that others have pointed out here. Something that stuck with me was Reda clearly being afraid to torture the other migrants for the password, being forced to turn on others like you to try to secure something for yourself... There was a lot to like here but I just found myself bored at some points by the pacing, but I'm glad stories like this are being told.

Mickey 17 2025
Anyone expecting anything on the level of Parasite will be disappointed. I figured this would be more similar to Okja or Snowpiercer and I was correct! It’s Hollywood-Bong at his best. I find his critical analysis of neo-techno-serfdom to be somewhat surface level here. Rpatz delivers. I had fun.

Taxi Driver 1976
Watched this after studying for several hours and a glass of wine on a flight which added to the experience greatly I think.
Apart from the technicalities of the film which.. WOW. It is so dream-like almost in the camera movements, I audibly gasped twice just at how things *looked*. This film is so American from the Cowboy narrative, the alienation Travis experiences, his ‘apoliticism’, subsequent radicalization and ill-informed vigilantism. Then he makes something that is Shinzo Abe doohickey adjacent and crashes out with a sick Mohawk
