I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone that pulled up to the screening - you’re all my family. My heart is so full.

And thank you to the artists that kept me going over the past year. You showed me the potential of the personal:

    Raz Vahn
    Scorsese
    Abbas
    Hong Sang-soo
    Tsai Ming-liang

This is my first full length doc. Dedicated to the stories we tell each other.

Diet Spike Lee (spike zero sounds too harsh). It’s genuinely funny at times (moreso than it ever is insightful), but in trying to approach its premise from a number of different angles, it over extends itself and under delivers on both the emotional turns and the social commentary. Spike is just pure conviction 24/7 and this felt more like an extensively crowd tested showtime original (rip) pilot.

no desire to engage with any of the discourse but I will say that the movie gleefully taunts you to reduce things to heroes and villains while, pretty obviously, making it clear that such dynamics will never be plausible. more importantly, the line reads here were so fucking funny 😭 the whole thing feels like schrader taking the piss out of himself while naturally uncovering yet another layer to his “templatized” style (which coincidentally was the same thing I thought about the Hong from earlier in the day!). If it’s really his last one it’s the ultimate troll fr
