  Holy cannoli where has this been all my life?! Literally loling and crying. So deeply heartfelt, heartbreaking, heart expanding. Love, friendship, loss, faith, self-doubt, this absolute GEM has it all. I love this movie.

  Agree with the New Yorker review that it simplifies, stereotypes, and mythologizes an aspect of Japan, n that is a fault. But the myth is the statement, the symbolism of this life is what packs the philosophical and poetic punch. The silence (Richard Brody wants a voice over, are you kidding me??) gives the viewer the critical room to wonder, to experience the guy’s life, perhaps criticize it, perhaps justify it. Maybe fav of the year for me ❤️‍🔥
