The Substance 2024
Really liked the first half, lost my suspension of disbelief in the second half. Loved the editing throughout the movie, though. And Demi and Margaret were fantastic at acting. I think the plot just got too out there for me, which usually isn’t a problem because I’m willing to accept a lot for plots.

A Real Pain 2024
Just wow. It’s rare to see a Jewish movie about the Holocaust where the message isn’t generally anti-diaspora. And in some way it isn’t about the Holocaust, it is about Jewish diaspora. God this is such a good film.

I can only think that not a single Jewish person had any part in making the film. The over-saturation of swastikas and neo-nazi imagery, seemingly just for shock, is truly disrespectful. Besides that embarrassment, the movie as a whole was just not good. You do not feel happy when two of the protagonists survive in the end, you just feel disgusted that you watch it.
