O Brother, Where Art Thou? 2000
I wrote a paper in 11th grade in which I likened the institution of police to slave catchers. Here, the political realities of the 1930s are masterfully shown. America has been built on slave labour, and it still runs on it. The law exists to punish the poor and the marginalized, coercing them into providing free labour for a promise of eventual freedom. Recent wildfires in the U.S. have been fought back by the incarcerated. This movie could be made about today, just as the Odyssey continues to be so gripping.
A powerful film, deeply human.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers 2002
Managed to catch the extended edition in theaters. Definitely weaker than Fellowship. But excellent regardless.

The Plague 1992
They read the book, decided it wasn't sexist enough, made it more and called it a day.
