  Rocky Road to Dublin 1968

  An important record of Irish social history and attitudes in the late 1960s. Shot beautifully. Lennon provides a scathing (and often hilarious) commentary which attempts to highlight the tight grip the clergy and bourgeois had on practically all aspects of Irish life. So glad it exists and can finally be enjoyed after it’s more than 30-year ban.

  Feminists: What Were They Thinking? 2018

  Important subject matter but lacked any sense of structure. Watch She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry (2014) for a much more concise depiction of second wave feminism.
  This film won’t win anyone over either. It’s incredibly optimistic and only features voices who support the movement. In light of #MeToo, Trump’s election and the Kavanaugh hearings, this  should have been more poignant and powerful.
