Watched on a plane, which is always awkward when I laugh out loud this much. The family drama and satire were respectively good, but could have been better had the film chosen a lane. Can’t deny the strength of writing and characters though. Sterling K Brown READ the assignment, and I would have liked to see more of Issa Rae and Tracee Ellis Ross.

Watching this on the heels of Barbie, I can’t help but think Barbie nailed the concept of female liberation better. I love Yorgos Lanthimos, and this movie further solidified his place as one of my favorite directors. But… at some point Bella’s sexual liberation started feeling more like a male’s idea of what female liberation must be. That said, I marveled at the acting chops during the entire film- arguably the best from Emma Stone, and Mark Ruffalo was an absolute treat.
