[Just Part 8 - "Gotta Light?"]

Lynch's force in the minutiae is remarkable. The young couple's interaction after the walk home embodies all that Twin Peaks is about: the forcing of a man onto a woman leading to hyper-conflicting sexual feelings/identity and a rollercoaster of depravity, a nuclear blast of sin radiating out towards everything around it. Even more, the creature borne of American wickedness has infested the woman and lives inside of her, and it has lived there ever since, lurking behind the disguise of idyllic Americana we try to act like exists. What a heavy punch from a minuscule vignette.

Despite being three hours long, the movie's romance plot still felt rushed. Not sure how that happens. Other than that, it should have been 1h45 long, he should have thrown the Batarang at the dangling cable in the stadium (you know, as it has always been used by every Batman, like, ever), and Robert Pattinson should stop staring so much.

I actually slightly enjoyed this movie, and would have normally ranked it a lot higher (2.5 stars or so) were…

Completely fails at presenting any themes strongly, developing characters you care about, building any suspense, or scaring you in the slightest. Big thirsty parachute poo-poo butthole in the sky is less scary than Substitute Teacher... big whiff.

*Edit: I just remembered the sick psycho monkey vignette, might throw an extra half star on my rating just for that.
