Do the Right Thing 1989
What a flick, honestly. - 1/2 a star for every scene with Rosie Perez. Her five minute intro dance scene + the sex scene have always been deeply unsettling to me. I guess important but I don’t care for it.
Outside of that, I guess the major idea is Black rage, Black sorrow, Black joy. Fiercely iconic, so many shots, so many characters, so many lines that stand the test of time. I don’t have the capacity to parse apart the plot, nor do I think I should.
And that’s the double truth, RUTH.

Hundreds of Beavers 2022
Didn’t think it was funny at all. Genuinely shocked because so many people (not anyone I actually know) said this was like the funniest movie of modern times. It felt like when someone you don’t know very well tries showing you a 30 minute YouTube video they think is really funny, but it doesn’t make you laugh in the slightest, and the dissonance exacerbates the discomfort.
