Alien 1979
Decided to revisit this on a rainy day and yeah, it's definitely a certified horror classic, and yeah, it was way ahead of its time in terms of visuals. To make an obvious comparison, the original Star Wars was another movie that was way ahead of the curve in terms of visual effects and I think Alien blows that movie out of the water. This gives me some strong Temple of Doom vibes, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. I think my fatal flaw was watching this by myself, I can definitely see it being a lot more enjoyable when watching with a decent group where everyone can have fun ripping on how absurd it is.

I think I'm just too much of an asshole to fully enjoy this. I can see the appeal, it's got a lot of personality, goofy charm, and the central theme of the movie is genuinely sweet and endearing. I imagine it hits especially hard for those who grew up without a father figure, and that's pretty cool, but... eh, I just have too many problems with this script.
