  There’s something special about movie stars. Their job requires a special gift of communication that transcends words and actions. The best ones have this magical way of showing us their soul. (Or maybe our own?)

  All that is to say — I’ve never fallen in love with anyone as quickly as I did with Shirley MacLaine in this movie.

  This movie is amazing for so many reasons but Shirley is the best of them.

  Almost certainly Miyazaki’s best written and most poetic film. A love letter to the undefinable, glorious, and mysterious phenomenon of human creativity.

  Perhaps no one knows more fully than Miyazaki the importance of hard work, inspiration and sacrifice that make such grand creative endeavors possible. 

  I left this film with the feeling that it will continue to play in the background of my mind, slowly revealing its secret meanings and beauties over time. Unlike my other favorite Ghibli films which…
