Mickey 17 2025
Sorry, but I was very disappointed by Mickey 17. The central concept of cloning / doubles was done much more tastefully in Moon (which I recently watched), and while both films take the expendability of their clones to a logical extreme, in order to explore how institutions exploit human beings, Mickey 17 additionally albeit very briefly provides a glimpse into how an entire posthuman (+ colonial ?) society might commodify if not fetishize cloned human life. Moon 2009
So glad I watched this movie. The first few minutes blend the visual design of films like Alien with some dated CGI and a hints of surrealism in the atmosphere, but then the main plot point hits and everything else about the film quickly falls into place. Conclave 2024
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Conclave, at its best, wrestles with the ideas of sanctity and modernity in contrast. The clergy spends a significant amount of time time sitting in silence on crowded coach buses. Even the most scenic shots of the Vatican feel profaned by the smatterings of cars and trucks around it.…

A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter 2024
It’s a Christmas special without any heart or soul, containing virtually no meaningful connections to the holiday season both in its aesthetic and in its music. You can’t just insist that you’re bathing in the Christmas spirit, when the evidence on screen gives the audience no reason to believe you! It’s bad and is giving nothing to us.
The totally original songs *almost* work, as they essentially sound like B-side Sabrina Carpenter songs, but they fundamentally aren’t Christmas songs. The…
