  coppola makes the same mistake as the town in treating the girls suicide as an inevitability and not a preventable tragedy (i just reread my first review and i already said this verbatim lol). she doesn't even try to convince you of their depression, everything is languid and detached. nobody is unbathed or wearing a hair shirt or using condiments as contraceptive. she completely shies away from the mess and neglect in a way that i will never forgive her…

  fun and very pretty, defies certain criticisms for a lot of modern movies. my mind left me at the end there its very much nosferatu meets eyes of fire. lohi told us after reading reviews on the internet that the book deals more with the actual cultural/historical setting and character identities which i am very curious about!
