The Perks of Being a Wallflower 2012
sweet, tender, pretentious, cliche, embarrassing, upsetting, relatable not rly but also sorta kinda ; i got mixed feelings. the last 20 minutes are so real and beautiful, it honestly puts the other hour and a half to shame, but the tone shift is so visceral it feels incredibly incohesive & i cant quite tell if that some sort of meta attempt. but it does feel like a capsule of nostalgia for a teenagehood i mostly didn't experience except for being 16…

All About Lily Chou-Chou 2001
beautiful score/soundtrack and cinematography, and i loved the way they presented the forum, but the nonlinear-ish structure was unnecessarily confusing. + beyond the tragic teen angst and poignant aesthetic, the plot and message doesn't do much for me. i wasn't sure if it was the intention, but it felt like the film wanted me to feel sympathetic for hoshino and i really didn't lol because the tragedies of shiori and kuno were so deeply sad and unjustifiable to me. however i can absolutely see why it's a cult classic and i will be streaming lily chou chou on spotify 🙌
