A kind of pound shop Free Fire but less funny and without a woman. More theatrical than I’d remembered.
Fun to revisit in a nostalgic way though - from back in the day when Tarantino appeared to be offering something fresh: cartoon but irl. Back when violence + funny + pointless felt new and all post modern. That’s got tired quick hasn’t it? Now that the whole world’s gone ha ha nothing matters.
Had to pause it for extra time to breathe sometimes. And at other times to try and work out whodunnit. A good thriller. Mostly they annoy me because they are obvious or willfully obscure - this one made emotional and physical sense on the whole and everyone is in it doing well.
Beautiful and also sad - melancholic is what I think I mean.
“In the dark theater Lee could feel his body pull towards Allerton, an amoeboid protoplasmic projection, straining with a blind worm hunger to enter the other’s body, to breathe with his lungs, see with his eyes, learn the feel of his viscera and genitals. Allerton shifted in his seat. Lee felt a sharp twinge, a strain or dislocation of the spirit. His eyes ached. He took off his glasses and ran his hand over his closed eyes.” ‘Queer’, William Burrows 💔
