It’s been too long since I’ve seen this and certainly did not appreciate it back then. Probably about as close to a perfect movie as you can make.
Didn’t appreciate the writing, directing, acting, cinematography, or production design anywhere near enough or I would have been coming back to it all the time.
Also Mark Wahlberg is phenomenal. I don’t think Leo could have brought the same kind of vulnerability, naiveté, and playfulness; and in a way where we’re not…

This movie gets better with each watch.
I remember my first with a couple people who didn’t like it. Their vague critique was it wasn’t anything they hadn’t seen before. Proud to say I no longer associate with them.
Only real note is I wish Jeremiah screamed his head off before it popped.
I need to see this in the theater.
Music, choreography, and long takes all great but it’s the bittersweet pain that captures the intangible, fickle heart of LA and makes this movie.
This was 20x better than I thought it would be and 10x better than I thought it was 2 decades ago.
