  This has to be the most gorgeously and meticulously crafted "rags to riches, and back to rags again" film ever. Experiencing it on the big screen is nothing short of transcendental.

  The charm of 80s sci-fi/dystopian movies will never get old for me. I love the way technological and practical innovation of their special effects give way to create this awesome yet also sort of goofy look of most films of this genre. Narrative wise, I also find it impressive how it's able to juggle exposing, seemingly deep-rooted, political issues and themes while also being highly entertaining. It's no doubt a product of a unique era.

  (I watched the director's cut, if it makes any difference.)

  Psychopathy presented through the eyes of a hustler. His malevolence, negotiation tactics, his persistence, the methodical approach he applies in order for him to thrive are all riveting and creepy to witness. All of this also distinctly residing in Jake Gyllenhaal's so eerie eyes. His performance exudes an alertness and obsession that complement just flawlessly with the crimes and emergencies of the nights in LA.
