I like it, just barely, but there's too much to unpack. Who's this movie for, exactly? Nevermind all the obvious liberties this movie takes, Dylan arrives fully formed and everyone is in utter disbelief of him. They just can't believe someone has the audacity to put words to music!

I'm a big Bob Dylan fan, but this movie is basically a reference train of events and individuals, and even I couldn't keep track of everything. People keep introducing themselves and…

    Crossing Delancey

    ★★★★

Yes, it's cute, fun, funny, deep and remarkably down to earth considering it's "just" a rom-com. But it's also such an intimate insight into Jewish culture (to outsiders, at least) that at times you'll feel like you should be looking away. Will these two make it? Who knows! Seriously!

The only thing shocking about this movie is that I can't find any reviews below 3 stars. Well, allow me...

French Bill Hader's life is portrayed as idyllic yet he still manages to fuck things up by bringing another woman into the mix. That's what would have happened in the real world. Except he doesn't fuck things up, he gets his cake and eats it too. I get it. It's satire. But everything about Le Bonheur is so simplistic and inhuman that it might as well be robots going in for their routine software updates.

Also, the editing isn't genius. It's weird.

Is Cop Land one of the legal corruption greats of all time? Possibly. The plot is certainly original, the world we see is rich and complex, and Stallone's portrayal of the sad sap/hero is compelling and inspiring. Do I wish we saw more of the supporting cast like Jeanine Garofalo and Edie Falco? Yes. Why all the Stallone hate? I don't get it.
