This was incredibly fun. Funny yet with a really sincere emotional core, anchored by delightful dual performances from my boy RPatt. Some of the satire swings and misses, and the socio-political commentary is cursory, but the movie just has so much heart and is so good to look at (in terms of cinematography, production design, and visual effects) that I didn't really care. My only other real criticism would be pacing - the leadup to the climax drags a bit, and the denouement gets bogged down with an unnecessary dream sequence.

Grave of the Fireflies 1988
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Grave of the Fireflies is a sadness behind the eyes, a deep sigh, a gaze over the sea. It is the sorrow and regret of a people folded gently into the last days of a boy and his little sister.
