The book is overlong and packed with so many tangents that you can barely keep the thrust of the story straight. But the underlying true story is gripping - wonderful fodder for the kind of WW2 dad movie that Britain churns out 3 of a year.

    Liked this a lot more than I was expecting as someone who doesn't love horror and never really had that same pop culture nostalgia feeling. Genuinely powerful and emotional.
